Flag salute in city

In front of Victoria City Hall at 6 p.m. last Thursday, residents and city officials gathered to install the first of 40 U.S. flags the city purchased to be placed on downtown light poles during the major holidays of Memorial Day, Flag Day, 4th of July, Labor Day and Veteran’s Day.
The initiative held special significance for several reasons. Steve Sarvi, Victoria’s city administrator, is currently deployed on an extended mission; two veterans, Tim Amundsen and Rick Tieden, serve on Victoria’s City Council; and the interim city administrator, David Urbia, is a reserve in the U.S. Navy.
All the flags were installed by the public works crew on Friday in time for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
