Speeds on Rolling Acres Road

Debbie Kelly, a Rolling Acres Road resident, reported increased traffic and high speeds of vehicles on the road.

Kelly and her family recently moved from Chicago, and in the seven months they’ve lived here, she said she’s had a number of close calls. “I want to go on record that it is a danger to residents and children,” she said.

There are 21 homes with driveways that feed directly onto the road, she told the city. Two weeks ago, she said she saw a semi-truck speeding at 70 mph. “Rude drivers are putting multiple people at risk,” she said. “Bavaria Road’s speed limit is 45 mph; Smithtown’s is 35 mph and they drive 70 on Rolling Acres.”

Kelly also pointed out that the white markers were removed when the road was resurfaced, and never replaced. Motorists are unaware of the trail crossing, endangering trail users.

“We’d like to see the speed reduced to 35 mph (from 55) and a stop sign installed at the church (Mt. Olivet West Campus).

Since the road is a county road, Mayor Thun gave Kelly a list of people and entities to contact to help address those issues: County Commissioner Randy Maluchnik, Sheriff Bud Olson, Ridgeview Medical (about sirens), Roger Gustafson, county engineer, and Three Rivers Park District for the trail markers.
